A 18-metre (59 foot) tall Christmas tree made out of beer crates, built over the course of two days in Bad Kissingen, Bavaria, was illuminated on Friday.

The illumination comes after a two-days work involving between 50 and 80 people, who joined forces to set up heavy concrete slabs at the base, and layer a total of 4,608 beer crates.

The beer-crate Christmas tree managed to break a world record, according to Nick Lisson, a moderator at Antenne Radio Bavaria, who were behind the initiative.
