Former Bolivian President Evo Morales is planning to campaign for the upcoming Bolivian election from his exile in Argentina. During his first public appearence in Buenos Aires, he held a speech to his supporters. Argentina’s new leftist government has granted Morales refugee status. Morales left Bolivia after a contested October election that caused a political crisis. Morales claims he was overthrown in a right-wing coup. Prior to arriving in Argentina, he received asylum in Mexico where he continously made statements against Bolivia’s self-proclaimed interim government.
Morales announced on Twitter that he was helping to plan his party's campaign strategy for Bolivia‘s upcoming election. Meanwhile, Bolivia's interim president Jeanine Anez has said an arrest warrant for Morales will soon be issued and that the former president is being investigated for sedition and terrorism.
