Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he disagrees with a Supreme Court ruling which found his decision to shut down parliament for five weeks was unlawful.

Critics had called the suspension a cynical ploy to stifle debate about Brexit and MPs will now return to parliament amid growing calls for the prime minister to resign.

But despite the latest setback Johnson seems undaunted and reiterated his promise to deliver Brexit by October 31.
