The world produces around 50 million tonnes of e-waste every year and that number could double by 2050. As the FT’s Nic Fildes explains, we need to extract e-waste’s valuable elements more efficiently and refine the second-hand market in the items themselves. Most importantly, consumers must demand more durable products and stop constantly upgrading them.
