China were announced the winners of the FIDE chess online nations cup, following a 2-2 draw in the super final match on Sunday.

Despite the draw result, China managed to secure the win with a four point margin scored in the first part of the competition. In circumstances where both teams have drawn, the team that played the best in the round-robin stage is awarded the winners, according to the rules.

Highlights of the match can be seen, including the moments where Wesley So and Wei Yi resign.

American chess grand master Fabiano Caruana, who was also awarded the most valuable player title, found the match to be "a bit anti-climactic," and "a bit of a premature finish," since he only played one match.

Online chess has been flourishing amid the coronavirus crisis that has seen most of the world in lockdown.
