Fans waited with bated breath as the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 was launched in Beijing on Thursday.

The Redmi series, which once came under the umbrella of Xiaomi, was launched as a brand within its own right. It boasts a 48-megapixel camera, a curved 2.5D glass design, and an 18-month warranty.

Founder and CEO of Xiaomi corporation Lei Jun told launch attendees: "First of all, we hope that it sticks to the extremely good price-performance ratio, which is the most important element of Xiaomi."

The Redmi Note 7 comes in three variants, starting at at 999 yuan (€128; $US147) and reaching up to 1399 yuan (€179; $US206) for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage option.
