French President Emmanuel Macron was greeted by his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People on Wednesday, as the French leader was visiting the country for the second time in a bid to strike new deals with Beijing.
Xi stated that the two countries agreed to "promote market opening, expand bilateral trade and investment, and strengthen cooperation in the field of intellectual property."
Macron praised Xi for China's commitment to achieve stability and said he can “can count on the spirit of responsibility of China to reach an effective, verifiable, complete and irreversible disarmament of the peninsula.”
Macron also demanded a renewed effort on pressuring Iran to end its violations of the 2015 JCPOA agreement.
Earlier this week, the French President attended the second edition of the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
