U.S. presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg (D) wants to prevent 1 million deaths from addiction and mental illness by 2028.
Under a plan he released on Friday, Buttigieg is focused on tackling the country’s opioid and substance abuse crisis.
Reuters reports, Buttigieg would require insurance companies to provide mental health and addiction treatment.
Buttigieg believes that by increasing access to mental health and substance abuse treatment more will seek help.
The 2020 Democratic U.S. presidential candidate currently serves as the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana.
