Robert K. Wittman founded the FBI's Art Crime Team and has helped recover more than $300 million in stolen works. In his book "Priceless," Wittman notes that while there are many art heist movies involving elaborate schemes like "Ocean's 8" and "The Thomas Crown Affair," the films aren't very accurate. According to Business Insider, art theft is more likely to take place at smaller museums or historical societies where security isn't so tight, and the success rate is higher. Not only that, Wittman says 90% of all art heists in America are inside jobs, by someone who had access to the collection--such as a worker, a curator, or even a visiting expert doing research!
