Arun Jaitley, India's former finance minister and a key Hindu nationalist party leader, died, Saturday, August 24, at a New Delhi hospital. He was 66.

Jaitley’s death was announced in a statement by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

He held the finance portfolio in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party-led government from 2014 through 2019, but chose not to run for re-election in last May's polls because of his poor health. (AP)
