German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yucel is facing a 16-year jail sentence in Turkey as the "extensively prolonged" case continues, according to the German Federal press conference on Friday.
"It was a big relief that Yucel could come back to Germany. It was simultaneously clear that the accusations persist further and the court case is still pending," said Rainer Breul, a spokesperson for the German Foreign Office.
On the subject of the recent arrest of a suspected right-wing terror group, government spokesperson Steffen Seibert said it is the "duty" of the German government to enable the possibility for "everyone in Germany who wants to exercise their religion within their rights," to be able to do so.
Twelve have been arrested so far, as anti-terror raids were carried out in 13 locations across Germany, including in Baden-Wurttemberg, Bavaria and Saxony-Anhalt.
