Protesters caused havoc in the Greek towns of Panagitsa and Arnissa on Wednesday by damaging two hotels after discovering that both would reportedly host over 50 migrants each.

Damaged and destroyed rooms of the Hotel Panagitsa and Arnissa's Hotel Agnanti where the refugees were supposed to be housed can be seen in the footage. Police later confirmed that around 150 protesters had also attempted to prevent the buses transporting the migrants to the hotels.

"The incidents that happened are condemned by our whole society and we believe that this wasn't done by Panagitsa citizens," said Panagitsa Community President, Androniki Parthenopoulou.

"I believe we don't want any more people, we have enough already with the existing ones," said local, Eftyhia.

Greece's government has been attempting to ease the overcrowding in refugee camps on the Greek islands, by relocating the migrants.
