More than 3,000 passengers were left stranded at the airport on the Greek island of Corfu's following the announcement of Thomas Cook's bankruptcy early on Monday.

Holidaymakers were seen waiting at the departures hall as well as outside the building. After Thomas Cook's collapse dozens of flights were cancelled as the company failed to get a rescue package from the government.

Meanwhile, the UK Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that an expatriation operation was under way to bring back nearly 150,000 British tourists.
