Police and protesters clashed in Tegucigalpa on Wednesday during a demonstration against US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley’s visit to the Honduran capital. Earlier in the day, Haley had showed her support to Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who is accused by the opposition of winning through electoral fraud.
Salsa music blared over the sound of police officers firing tear gas as they tried to disperse the crowd. Protesters held coffins and crosses that represented victims killed by military and police.
The demonstration was led by Opposition Alliance party candidate Salvador Nasralla and former President Manuel Zelaya.
