Security forces deployed tear gas against anti-government protesters in Tegucigalpa on Monday. Earlier in the day protesters held a march against President Juan Orlando Hernandez, a year after a contested presidential election.
During the demonstration a journalist was shot in his right arm, according to an activist and a fellow journalist. He reportedly underwent emergency surgery.
Protesters allege electoral fraud in the vote that saw Hernandez retain his position as president. Protests followed the result, leading to violence between demonstrators and security forces. Many have fled the country to escape the violence amid the killing of a number of activists.
