Gunpowder-stuffed puppets of US President Donald Trump and Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez were burned as part of a New Year’s celebration in Tegucigalpa on Tuesday.

"The reason why these dolls are made is to send a message of the discomfort that we feel with the regime, with the people who are governing us, who are turning us to desperation," Bertrand Lagos, the father of the puppet creator Luis Lagos, stated.

Luis Lagos, the artist behind the puppets, put it simply: "there is no work, and then what the Honduran does is to emigrate."

The practice is reported to have been a Lagos family tradition for around 20 years.
