Police in riot gear dispersed protesters in Hong Kong's area of Mong Kok on Friday.

Demonstrators took to the streets in response to scuffles that had earlier broken out between anti-government and pro-Beijing lawmakers in the Legislative Council.

Last year, Hong Kong was hit by anti-government protests against the now-scrapped plan to allow extraditions to mainland China.

The protest movement united activists calling for more autonomy and an investigation into alleged police brutality.
