Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says the world is asking for full accountability and transparency from Iran in the investigation into the shooting down of a Ukrainian airliner.

Champagne spoke to reporters in London after chairing a meeting with his counterparts from four other countries who lost citizens in last week's crash in Tehran.

The group discussed tools they might need to use to force Iran to co-operate with them if that becomes necessary.

The federal government hopes the group, which includes representatives from Ukraine, Sweden, Afghanistan and Britain, will ensure justice and financial compensation for the families.
