Iran's latest homegrown air defence missile system, the Bavar-373, was unveiled by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during a ceremony in Tehran on Thursday, on the occasion of the National Defence Industry Day.
"On the verge of the holy-defence week, we unveil the long-range Bavar-373 homegrown air defence system and I issue the order that it joins to the air defence network of the country," said Rouhani during his speech.
The long-range mobile air defence system was built domestically, after Russia suspended the planned sale of their S-300 system to Iran in 2007, following the imposition of sanctions upon Iran by the UN Security Council due to its nuclear programme.
According to Iranian media, the Bavar-373 utilises three different types of missiles, possesses a phased array radar with a 450 km (280 miles) range, and could rival the Russian S-300 missile system.
