The streets of the northern Italian town of Codogno, where 14 new coronavirus cases were confirmed, appeared almost deserted with just a few businesses still operating on Saturday, as the city was put under lockdown.

Footage shows a few people walking on the empty streets of the small northern town south from Milan as a complete lockdown has been imposed on the region amid coronavirus fears. Some residents were seen wearing face masks as other resorted to covering their faces with scarves.

After two people were confirmed to have died in northern Italy after contracting coronavirus and 14 new cases of coronavirus were identified, officials were prompted to suspend several public activities for up to a week and ask residents to stay at home across several Italian towns.
