Police forcibly removed dozen of protesters staging a sit-in to block the road leading to the marine base in Henoko, Thursday, as rallies against the relocation of the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Station to the area continue.

Demonstrators chanted slogans against the plans and held placards decrying the US military presence as they reportedly refused to let 36 trucks carrying rocks and gravel for the construction of the military base.

Over the next five years, a new facility will be built in the waters off the coast from Camp Schwab as part of the relocation of the Futenma Air Station to the Henoko area on the island of Okinawa. The move has been received with continuous opposition from locals and Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga.
