International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 60-61 crew held a pre-flight press conference at the Baikonur Cosmodrome on Friday.
The main crew, NASA astronaut Andrew Morgan, European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano and Alexander Skvortsov of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, discussed their upcoming mission and took questions from the press.
Asked about the selection of new cosmonauts, Parmitano joked that “the perfect candidate has no hair.”
“You don't have to shave it and create a lot of mess in the space station. That would be a very valuable skill,” the Italian said, prompting laughter from the audience.
Russia’s Skvortsov on his part explained how the crew will measure their exposure to space radiation during the mission.
“We have personal detectors which we will then bring back to the Earth in order to calculate how much radiation each of us has got. There are also detectors we take when we are going to space, we carry them with us.”
The trio are scheduled to launch to the ISS on board the Soyuz MS-13 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on Saturday, July 20.
