Tear gas and smoke were seen filling the streets of Beirut as anti-government demonstrations continued in the Lebanese capital on Sunday.

Footage shows protesters throwing tear gas canisters back at police with fire raging in the streets.

Lebanon was swept up in protests over economic stagnation and corruption. The trigger was a raft of new taxes, also targeting WhatsApp calls, designed to tackle the country's high public debt.
