German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcome Polish, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian heads of state for commemorations marking the 30th anniversary since the fall of the Berlin Wall at the Berlin Wall Memorial on Friday, November 9. During the ceremony, the leaders of the Visegrád Group will be thanked for their contribution to the “peaceful revolution” of 1989 that led to the collapse of the communists regimes across Eastern Europe. Merkel is also expected to speak at the Chapel of Reconciliation, located on the former Berlin Wall border strip, which will be followed by a service marking the anniversary.
