Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the unemployment rate in the US rose to 14.7 percent from just 4.4 percent in March, marking the highest figure since the Great Depression.A record number of over 33 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits since the beginning of the pandemic in mid-March.

As of Friday, the US registered 1,256,972 confirmed cases of the virus with 75,670 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
