A unique 'slow lane' has been introduced in Spinningfields, Manchester on Friday to prevent pedestrians glued to their phones from bumping into each other. The lane will stay in place for just one day.

Footage shows the 'slow lane' in action with phone loving pedestrians following the lane markings while looking at their phones.

"Research has shown that Manchester is the hot-spot for bumping into people on the street due to being too busy looking down at your phone," a post from the official Spinningfields Facebook page said.

According to UK media, the concept was conceived by phone company AO-Mobile as a marketing exercise after 96% of respondents to a survey answered that they have come across a so-called 'phone zombie' in the last 12 months.
