All Tecate Port of Entry (POE) lanes from Mexico into the US were closed for ten minutes on Tuesday as US Customs and Border Protection officers conducted operational readiness exercises.
During the drill, long queues of cars were formed at the border crossing as commuters sought entry to the US.
Local residents reacted differently to the delay with some justifying the drills as "protecting the country."
"If working people come, [that's] fine, but not if they [migrants] come and break the rules. We already have enough," said a Tecate resident, voicing his concern over the influx of Central American migrants who are awaiting US asylum processing in Mexico.
