US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo welcomed the biggest ever bilateral arms deal between the US and Montenegro during his short trip to the Balkan country in Podgorica on Friday, in an announcement made at a joint press conference with Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic.

"The US looks forward to delivering $36 (€33) million worth of light tactical vehicles to our NATO ally once this agreement is finalised," Pompeo said.

Pompeo also thanked Montenegro "for supporting US resolutions at the United Nations" and for "complementing the US diplomatic efforts regarding Syria, Iraq, Libya and Islamic Republic of Iran."

Pompeo is on a short trip to Montenegro and North Macedonia, which is in the process of joining the NATO.
