Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are departing from the Imperial Palace for a parade to celebrate the Emperor's formal ascension. The procession in the Japanese capital Tokyo is expected to last about half an hour, finishing at the Akasaka Imperial Residence. The younger brother of the emperor, Crown Prince Fumihito, and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are also in the motorcade. Thousands of people are gathering to watch the rare open-top car. The route was chosen for visibility and security reasons. The parade was postponed from the original October date due to Typhoon Hagibis.
