A social enterprise in Abuja has been empowering women to transform waste into face masks during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Footage from Sunday shows the women collecting waste and later cutting and weaving the material to produce fabric necessary for the face masks.

Ecobarter, the social enterprise behind the initiative was launched in 2018, and aims to foster a culture of eco-responsibility using waste management ideas.

"Since the pandemic started, it came across as something that was going to be a challenge but because of the facilities that we have, it was easy for us to redirect our resources," said founder and managing director of Ecobarter Rita Idehai.
