After more than a week of violent storms, rain-swollen rivers threaten more flooding in Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois and Oklahoma. Tulsa, Oklahoma Mayor, G.T. Bynum warned residents that the decades-old levee system could be at risk even as waters begin to recede. In a phone interview, Bynum said; “To have a 70-year–old levee system that has been poorly maintained and protects thousands of people and their homes and property and to have it go through a historic level of stress at that age and in the condition it’s in, it’s been an area of high risk". Reuters reports that Oklahoma National Guard is currently patrolling the 20-mile levee system that protects over 10,000 residents.
