A cargo ship was filmed docking at the port of Subic on Thursday, which the authorities reportedly intend to use to ship 69 containers of waste to Canada, who they accuse of illegally disposing it in the Philippines between 2013 and 2014.

During the cargo ship's approach to the docks, a small vessel of environmental activists sailed nearby, holding a banner which read, "Philippines is not a dump-site."

The shipping of the waste is due to take place after the Canadian government reportedly did not take the steps demanded by Filippino authorities to transport the garbage by May 15, which was a deadline set by Filippino President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to reports, the waste was shipped to the Philippines in 2013 and 2014, allegedly labelled as recyclable material, prompting widespread outrage and criticism in the country.
