Philippines ships dumped trash back to Canada

On May 31, Manila shipped tons of garbage back to Canada after a long-running row over waste exports tested their ties. In 2013 and 2014, a Canadian firm shipped waste to the Southeast Asian nation, incorrectly labeled as recyclables. A Philippine court in 2016 declared much of it illegal, with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte threatening war if Canada didn't retrieve it. It prompted Manila to recall some of its diplomats and embassy staff from Canada.
