The 350th anniversary of the Russian tricolor drew thousands to Moscow’s Akademika Sakharova Avenue on Saturday.
Muscovites took part in a flash mob and created a giant 2,500-square-metre Russian flag out of at least 2,000 smaller regional ones. The celebrations, that concluded with the concert, were reportedly attended by more than 100,000 guests.
In Russia, the National Flag Day is traditionally celebrated on August 22. On this day, in 1994, this tricolor was first hoisted on the deck of a Russian warship. Today, the white-blue-red cloth is an official state symbol, along with the coat of arms and the anthem of Russia.
