US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo characterised the recent drone and missile attack on a Saudi oil facility as an "act of war" against Saudi and US citizens living in the kingdom, singling out at Iran as responsible, which he considered "unquestionable", as he arrived to Jiddah to meet top Saudi officials.

In his official statement after meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Pompeo called for uniting the international community "to counter the continued threat of the Iranian regime".

On Thursday, Pompeo is set to visit another US ally in the region, United Arab Emirates. The US Secretary of State will meet Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
