Beachgoers, athletes and passersby were seen sharing spaces at Barceloneta beach in Barcelona, on Saturday, during the hours allowed for outdoor activities by COVID-19 restrictions after the lockdown measures were eased.
Since Friday, locals can head to the beach for sports between 06:00 AM and 10:00 AM (04:00 and 08:00 GMT), and between 08:00 PM and 11:00 PM (18:00 and 21:00 GMT). However, it is forbidden to sit on the sand to read or rest.
Nor is recreational bathing allowed, unless for swimming or other sports. Footage shows a large number of surfers in the Catalan capital's waters.
Vehicles of the Barcelona Urban Guard patrolled the area, informing people of the necessity of maintaining a safe distance and the prohibition to gather in groups.
