Russian and Syrian government forces are escalating their assault on Syria’s last rebel-held province.

Air raids have caused a mass exodus from Idlib.

Observers say more than 18,000 people have been displaced from Idlib by the ongoing bombardment in just 24 hours.

At least 18 civilians including eight children have been killed, with the offensive mostly targeting small villages in the countryside.

This is happening despite a truce announced by Moscow being in place since August.

Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports.
