While the real Venice is struggling with the worst flooding in half a century, all visitors of the CC Park shopping mall in the city of Guiyang in China's southwest Guizhou province have an opportunity to experience a gondola ride without the fear of being swept away.
Footage filmed on Saturday shows a Venice-themed shopping centre with the man-made Grand Canal and replicas of the city's famous gondolas and bridges, which was opened on August 30.
"The 'Venice Town' in Guiyang gives us a different experience," said one of the visitors, Yang Xue, adding: "It is said that the flood in Venice has something to do with environmental damage. So we should work together to protect the environment and this beautiful world."
Winter flooding, dubbed "acqua alta" in Venice, meaning "high water", reached 187cm (73 inches) last Tuesday, the highest level since the record of 194 cm set in 1966.
