Several protesters were arrested in London on Friday during an Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstration in Oxford Circus, after the group defied a city-wide ban on their rallies.

Footage shows police detaining several protesters who were participating in a rally that saw XR activists creating a giant bamboo pyramid in the middle of the busy junction.

The movement has been blocking the UK capital for 10 days leading to over 1,600 arrests according to reports. Authorities announced a ban of all Extinction Rebellion protests in London on Monday under Section 14 of the Public Order Act.
