Stan the cat, a strenuous anti-Brexit campaigner, will stand in December's general election in the UK for the constituency of Gillingham and Rainham, as his owner Peter Cook announced in Chatham on Friday.
"Originally it was just an idea for a fun thing on social media," Cook said, adding "It's turned into a real thing in so far as we got a cat standing in one of the areas against the ruling Conservative Party here."
Afina the cat is another one of Cook's pets, who has also been part of what Cook calls "cats against Brexit mayhem." The cat owner continued: "The cats actually want to remain and reform our relationship with Europe. They also violently oppose Brexit in every way because we have now got Boris Johnson who's had fifty shades of Brexit."
Cook said he will represent Stan as his "cat whisperer" to get Gillingham and Rainham voting for his new party, UCAT. Stan the cat will stand against Tory Rehman Chishti, who has been MP for Gillingham and Rainham since 2010.
