Candidate for Uruguay's ruling Frente Amplio coalition Daniel Martinez addressed supporters at a rally in Montevideo on Sunday as early results suggested he won the first round of the presidential election.
"Let's give it everything with the heart in our hands and with the ideas. Let's fight so from November 24 the Frente Amplio and the project of an Uruguay with development and justice keeps governing", said Martinez.
His result was not enough avoid a run-off so he will face Luis Lacalle Pou in the second round on November 24.
The Frente Amplio coalition has been governing in Uruguay for more than 14 years but it's now facing a major challenge from Pou's National Party.
