Activists from the climate action group Extinction Rebellion occupied the office of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi in Washington DC on Monday demanding a one hour on-camera meeting.
Spokesman for Extinction Rebellion in Washington Nick Brana said: "Nancy Pelosi is now standing in the way of declaring a climate emergency, she's standing in the way of a Green New Deal. The Green New doesn't even go far enough, according to what scientists say. She can't even allow a non-binding symbolic resolution to pass."
The activists are taking part in a week-long global hunger strike to demand action from governments on climate crisis. Nearly 300 people said they will join the action.
