US President Donald Trump praised Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the 'true and legitimate President of Venezuela' while delivering the annual State of the Union address at the Capitol in Washington DC on Wednesday. Guaido attended the event as Trump's guest.
"The United States is leading a 59 nation diplomatic coalition against the socialist dictator of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro. Maduro is an illegitimate ruler, a tyrant who brutalises his own people, but Maduro's grip on tyranny will be smashed and broken," said Trump.
The US President said his administration was trying to 'restore democracy' for Cubans, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, having 'reversed the failing polices of the previous administration' on Cuba.
