Supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his predecessor Hugo Chavez, known colloquially as Chavistas marched through Caracas on Sunday, to mark the International Women's day.

The event organised by the government began in the Plaza Morelos and continued near the National Pantheon in the city centre.

Footage shows people, mostly wearing red, flooding capital's streets, waving Venezuelan flags and dancing as well as chanting slogans denouncing violence against women.

International Women's Day has been celebrated worldwide for more than a century, after it developed through the labour movement as a date recognised by the UN.
