Zimbabwean officials confirmed at least 98 people died and another 217 are missing on Monday after Cyclone Idai swept through, as shown in footage filmed in the eastern village of Rusitu near Chimanimani on Tuesday.

Cyclone Idai has wreaked havoc in south-eastern Africa since making landfall on Thursday, with neighbouring Mozambique the worst affected - the country's President Filipe Nyusi said as many as 1,000 could be dead.

The cyclone, the winds of which reached up to 177km/h (105mph), caused the Nyahonde River to burst its banks, as shown in footage released by the Red Cross.

Official figures confirm that 180 people have died in total and the Mozambican port city of Beira, which is home to 500,000, has been severely damaged, according to authorities.
